Snowmelt Home Inspection Tips and Local Events

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

We’ve got sun, we’ve got snow. Sun/snow/sun/snow – here in Colorado and in many other states, that’s just the reality our late winter brings. Along with it, however, comes a home maintenance task we’ll bet you haven’t thought of: the snowmelt inspections.

Snow accumulates on our roofs, our yards and everywhere in between. Following times of particularly heavy snowfall, that snow takes awhile to melt and then evaporate, leaving your home’s foundation and doorways at-risk for damage from standing and dripping moisture. Door frames can become overburdened if sealants aren’t intact due to age or temperature changes and the base of your home where it meets the ground can absorb moisture into your home’s exterior treatment if cracked or compromised.

This weekend, take a quick walk around the outside of your home and inspect your stucco, siding, window frames and door frames. Make sure that sealants are in good condition and carry a tube of clear silicone or latex sealant with you for weak spots. If you notice a section of stucco that’s coming loose due to moisture or a door frame where the wood has warped from absorption/drying cycles, call in a handyman and get an assessment of the situation. Repairing now can save you from costly repairs later on down the line.

We’ve launched our new Events Calendar! Check the calendar for events upcoming within the next week or so. Want something added to our calendar? Just drop us a line and we’ll be happy to get your event listed.

Have an incredible weekend~
